Project description
Construction is underway on Casey community recreation park.
The ACT Government is building a new recreation park in Casey to provide a wider range of outdoor recreation opportunities for local residents and contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community.
The community recreation park will be an important high-quality addition to the recreation facilities currently available in Casey, which includes six modern playgrounds and an off-leash dog park. It will also complement existing and future recreation facilities in the Gungahlin region more broadly.
Engagement was undertaken with both community and stakeholders with feedback invited on indicative designs and elements for inclusions. For more information on the consultation that took place, including a What We Heard Report (PDF) summarising the feedback, visit YourSay.

Environmental considerations
An Environmental Significance Opinion (ESO) has been approved and additional investigations have been carried out to ensure ecological communities near the site are protected. The construction footprint is contained to the areas of sediment pond which were identified when initial estate plans were developed and no native grasslands are impacted. Furthermore conservation areas have been identified for further maintenance and tree planting in partnership with local landcare groups.
Construction
Work started in September 2023 and is expected to be completed in mid-2024. Works will be carried out as dayworks only between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday. If required, work may be undertaken on weekends between 8 am and 4 pm.
No road closures will be required to facilitate these works. However, there may be temporary traffic changes such as reduced speed limits to allow construction vehicles safe exit/entry from the worksite. On-street parking will also be temporarily removed near the worksite to facilitate the second access point. Pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to follow detour signs and not enter the construction zone.
