Canberra is home to a comprehensive network of walking and cycling routes that make it easier and safer for people to travel actively throughout our city.
We want people to choose to travel actively. Active travel improves health and wellbeing, reduces the prevalence of chronic diseases, creates accessible communities, and increases the social and economic prosperity of a community.
Each year a program of community path improvements is carried out. This includes adding new connections into the community path network and upgrading existing connections as needed.
Below is the current program of works for 2019-20. The ACT Government is fast tracking additional infrastructure projects to keep Canberra working through the COVID-19 pandemic. These projects include path and crossing improvements which have been requested by members of the community or have been identified as missing links in our shared path network. To find out what projects are being delivered, visit the fast-track program website.
