In March 2016 a community consultation was held to identify improvements to active travel infrastructure and facilities in Monash and Kaleen to make it easier for older residents to move in and around their suburb.
During the six week consultation period over 470 surveys were completed. Overall, responses were very positive and supportive of the project.
For both suburbs, the most common problem that people faced when walking or cycling were narrow or damaged paths. Over 70% of respondents in Monash and 63% of respondents in Kaleen identified this as an issue. Overhanging branches and shrubs or groundcover obstructing the footpath was the second most common issue raised by both suburbs.
Construction of the priority works will commence shortly and will be completed by the end of June 2017.
