We are calling on the creativity of Canberrans to name some new equipment that will soon join our City Services fleet.

A new street sweeper and two new articulated loaders will join the fleet of our City Services team to assist them in delivering essential maintenance services to Canberrans. What is an articulated loader you ask? You can find out more about the new equipment below.

Get your thinking hat on and let your creativity shine. A pun or two is welcome, but please follow the Terms and Conditions in the Document Library when taking part.

You can have your say by:

Street sweeper

The ACT Government conducts a comprehensive street sweeping program to remove leaves and rubbish debris from kerbs and gutters along our road network.

Every street in Canberra receives at least two full sweeps each year. Additional sweeps are undertaken in areas of high leaf debris during autumn.

Street sweeping is also undertaken in shopping centres, carparks and other suburban areas to improve safety and visual amenity.

The new streetsweeper will be based in the south of Canberra to help deliver this important service. A photo of it is below.

During the peak mowing season, the sweeper will assist with removing grass from gutters caused by mowing activities.

Articulated loaders

An articulated loader is used to collect and dispose of wood waste such as storm debris.

This piece of equipment is particularly helpful following storm events and can access areas not accessible via a truck.

Clearing debris blocking roads will be significantly faster and safer with this equipment which will reduce the risk of manual handling injuries.
