Residential red and yellow bin collections are a critical service and, as a proactive measure to provide some separation between drivers to prevent service disruptions, drivers will work staggered shifts from Monday 23 March 2020.
This means that collections for residential waste and recycling bins will start at 5am from Monday 23 March 2020. Please put your bins on your kerb the night before their collection to ensure they are picked up.
Whilst this may cause a slight shake up to people’s usual routines, it’s important that waste contractors have safeguards in place to ensure they can continue to deliver this service. The earlier start time of 5 am has been approved by the ACT Environment Protection Authority regarding noise impacts.
There is currently no change to the start times of green bin collections which will remain as 7 am.
ACT NoWaste is continuing to work closely with the contracted service providers to monitor the situation and ensure plans are in place to manage impacts of COVID-19.
Drop-off and education facilities
The ACT’s waste and recycling drop-off facilities are continuing to operate with the following changes:
- customers are asked to abide by social distancing measures within facilities, including the Green Shed
- sites are no longer accepting cash payments
- Soft Landing is not accepting public drop-offs for mattresses at this time. Customers can still book a collection via their website for $40 per mattress. Alternatively, mattresses can be taken to the transfer stations for $36 per mattress.
The Container Deposit Scheme is continuing to operate, however a number of express point return locations have been temporarily closed. Depots are continuing to provide cash payment options, however electronic refunds are also available. Please check www.actcds.com.au for the latest updates.
