The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy. Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.
General updates
Death cap mushrooms: Inspections and removals continue with 184 mushrooms removed in the week ending 2 May 2025.
Election signage: The targeting of non-compliant electoral advertising signs is continuing with 65 breaches identified and 56 fallen signs collected. From these identified breaches, 15 warning notices and 5 infringements have been issued. Remaining signs are now being treated as litter and are disposed.
European wasps: Crews treated 25 wasp nests in April 2025.
Illegal dumping: Compliance operations are continuing around Canberra, with surveillance cameras being deployed in areas where illegal dumping is occurring. Fines range from $500 to $1,500 for an individual and up to $7,500 for a corporation.
Libraries: Lift replacement works are underway at Belconnen, Tuggeranong and Woden libraries.
Playgrounds: All water play items will be turned off by Thursday 15 May 2025 for the winter period.
Road closures:
Coppins Crossing Road remains closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue until Saturday 17 May 2025 due to construction of the Molonglo River Bridge

Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Florey and Holt. They are also planting 455 trees in Aranda, Bruce, Evatt, Florey, Giralang, Hawker, Higgins, Holt, Kaleen, Latham, Lawson, Macgregor, Macquarie, McKellar, Melba, Page, Scullin and Weetangera.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Gundaroo Drive duplication: The new section of shared path between Owen Dixon Drive and Baldwin Drive (including underpasses) remains closed while landscaping works are completed. The contractor is reducing the site compound area and rehabilitating the area. Landscaping including tree and shrub planting is nearing completion. The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.
ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at O'Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge for serrated tussock. The team is also following up on myrtle rust found at the National Museum.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews are undertaking maintenance at Banksia Street wetlands, Dickson wetlands, Manuka shops and Turner bus layover. They are also collecting leaves in the City (including Glebe Park) and hedging cycle lanes on Northbourne Avenue in Downer.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Downer, Lyneham, Watson and Henry Rolland Park. Mowing is also underway along Bowen Drive, Canberra Avenue, Captain Cook Crescent, Melbourne Avenue, Sturt Avenue and Wentworth Avenue.
Playgrounds: Mulch top-up is underway at the playground on White Crescent (west) in Campbell.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation is conducting the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: Black Mountain, O’Connor Ridge, Kowen (Bulldozer Road), Kowen (Oaks Estate), Mount Pleasant and Pialligo. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds in Beard, Braddon, Campbell, Fyshwick, Lyneham and O’Connor. They are also removing weeds along Long Gully Road and Mugga Lane.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Garden City Cycleway: Stage 1C of the project between Angas Street and Majura Avenue is nearing completion. The path is expected to open in the coming fortnight. Minor works will continue including consolidation of grass.
Inner North playground: Construction continues with the installation of rubber softfall, line marking and signage for the new car parking. Planting is also underway on over 100 trees and shrubs.
School Safety Program: Construction is underway on the crossing and footpath connection at Canberra Girls Grammar School. Works are being undertaken outside of peak hours and are expected to be completed in early June 2025.
ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews are also undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews are undertaking maintenance at bus stops in Franklin.
Mowing: Mowing is underway at Gungahlin town centre and Yerrabi Pond.
Playgrounds: Mulch top-up is underway at the playground on Springbank Rise in Casey.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation is conducting prescribed burns in Gungahlin and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Recycling drop-off: The Gungahlin recycling drop-off centre is closed for maintenance and repair work on Tuesday 13 May 2025 from 8 am to 11 am.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:
Gungahlin memorial hall and condolence lounge: Construction is underway with works on the slab and drainage progressing well. The contractor and project team are working closely with the Canberra Memorial Park team to ensure services are not impacted by these works.
Yerrabi Pond upgrades: Car parking improvements at Phyllis Ashton Circuit are almost complete. The 2 accessible car parks will open to the community by Friday 16 May 2025. The final 4 car parks are expected to open the following week.
Bullen Range Nature Reserve, Miowera Pines, Gigerline Nature Reserve, Rob Roy Range Nature Reserve (south) and parts of Pierces Creek Forest and Ingledene Forest are closed until Sunday 18 May 2025
Googong Foreshore is closed from Monday 26 May to Friday 30 May 2025.
The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Tuesday 10 June 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
A section of Paddys River Road, near the Deep Space Tracking Station, has one lane closed until further notice for construction upgrades. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place. Completion of these works is anticipated by July 2025.
The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.

Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation is conducting the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway: Construction works for the new Dog Trap Creek (Woden Creek) bridge continues. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane. Find out more about the traffic impacts.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: The Mount Taylor car park will be closed for approximately 2 days this month for line marking. Once the dates are confirmed, an update will be provided on the project page.
Glendale picnic area upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new picnic facilities such as tables and shelters at Glendale picnic area in the Namadgi National Park. The work will take a few weeks to complete and remains open to the public.
Lanyon dog park: Major works are nearing completion at the Lanyon dog park. The park remains closed to allow for grass and plant establishment. An update will be provided before the dog park opens.
Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new BBQ and picnic facilities, walking tracks and an art installation at the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. The upgrades aim to provide accessible facilities for the community to enjoy while also recognising the 2020 Orroral Valley bushfire. The Visitors Centre remains open while work is underway.
Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations. Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek.
Park maintenance: Park maintenance is underway in Wright.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation is conducting prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. Roads and paths: A section of the walking track near Buntine Crescent in Isaacs is closed for maintenance. Melrose Drive underpass repair work is nearing completion with southbound lanes now open. Crews are also:
repairing guard rails and roadside safety barriers on William Howell Drive, 500 meters past Drake Brockman Drive towards Whitlam
litter picking on Eucumbene Drive, John Gorton Drive and Lady Denman Drive
Athllon Drive duplication: To assist with planning and design for the project, a lane closure on the southbound slip lane on Athllon Drive at the Melrose Drive roundabout intersection is required from 8 pm on Monday 12 May 2025 to 6 am on Tuesday 13 May 2025 (weather dependant).
Mawson shops toilet upgrade: Construction is progressing. The lighting has been repaired in the temporary toilets in the car park.
Molonglo River Bridge: Coppins Crossing Road remains closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue for the lifting of steel girders onto the bridge structure. This closure allows for girders to be safely lifted into place by a 1,600 tonne capacity crane. Coppins Crossing Road is expected to open by Saturday 17 May 2025. Stormwater network improvements: Works commence this week to repair the stormwater drain on the northern section of Corinna Street in Phillip. Signage has been installed between Furzer Street and Keltie Street to provide information on the upcoming construction works. Works are expected to be completed by August 2025. Please note the on-road cycle lane will be closed from Monday 19 May 2025 until further notice.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
