Towards...plastic free events

Event organisers have already worked with the ACT Government for many years to achieve great sustainable outcomes – and getting plastic sorted at local events is our next step.

The Territory-wide single-use plastics ban applies to all ACT events, however some events have gone above and beyond by eliminating even more plastic items and being declared by the Minister for Transport and City Services as ‘plastic-free events’.


‘Plastic-free events’ show it is possible for more sustainable alternatives to be used for items such as takeaway containers, plates and bowls.

Advice for event organisers

Public event organisers are invited to take up the challenge of reducing single-use plastics at their event.

If your event is interested in taking part, please email singleuseplastics@act.gov.au. The ACT Government will provide advice and support to participating event organisers.
