Bioplastics
Products made from bioplastics should be placed in your general waste bin. They are not accepted in ACT household recycling, green garden waste or FOGO bins.
Some bioplastic products are marked as compostable, but need to be processed in an industrial composting facility.
Disposal options
- Avoid using single-use products where possible
- Place in your general waste bin
- Businesses can check with commercial composting contractors to see if they accept these products.
Why?
Bioplastics are not recyclable in the ACT. Bioplastic products are made from plant or other biological material instead of petroleum.
Compostable bioplastics can only be composted in certain industrial composting facilities, not in home composting bins or FOGO.
