Coffee grounds
Coffee grounds can be disposed of in rubbish bins in the ACT. However, there are many options that offer better environmental outcomes such as composting or worm farming. Coffee grounds cannot go in ACT green waste bins.

- Thinly sprinkle directly on your soil as a fertilizer or pest repellent
- Contact local social enterprise Capital Scraps Compost to see if they collect compost in your local area

- Place in your landfill bin.
Additional information
The Canberra Environment Centre run workshops on composting and sell a range of composting systems at a reduced price.
Why?
When coffee grounds are sent to landfill, they decompose to produce methane, a harmful greenhouse gas. It's also a loss of an intensive source of nutrients and energy.
If coffee grounds are recycled and reused, valuable organic matter and nutrients can be recaptured and used to benefit the environment.
