Cutlery (plastic)
Plastic cutlery cannot be recycled in the ACT.
Single use plastic cutlery and stirrers (including bioplastic cutlery and stirrers) are prohibited from sale, supply or distribution within the ACT from 1 July 2021. Consider using alternatives such as reusable plastic, metal or biodegradable cutlery. Visit the single-use plastics website to find out more.

Why?
Small items such as plastic cutlery fall through the machinery at the Materials Recovery Facility where the contents of your recycling bin are sorted. When left in the environment they become litter.
