Lids
ACT residents are asked to remove lids before recycling containers. The material and size of a lid will determine if and how it can be recycled.
Disposal options
- Lids larger than a credit card (such as a large milo or peanut butter lid) can be placed in recycling bins.
- Lids4Kids - ACT Region collect some types of plastic lids for various recycling projects.
- Disposable coffee cup lids go in the landfill bin as they are made from non-expanded polystyrene (plastic code 6).
- Metal lids smaller than a credit card such as beer bottle lids or small jam jar lids can be collected and taken to a scrap metal dealer for recycling:
ACT Recycling Symonston
Access Recycling Fyshwick
Metal Mart Fyshwick
- Where small lids can’t be recycled they should be put in the landfill bin.
Why?
- Taking lids off ensures containers are empty which is important in keeping our recycling clean.
- Lids are often made of different types of plastic to the bottle and our recycling systems sort by plastic or material type.
- Anything smaller than a credit card is too small to be sorted at our Materials Recycling Facility.
