Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)
Rapid antigen test (RAT) kits are considered hazardous waste once used and should not be placed in your recycling bin.
Disposal options
Follow the disposal instructions in the test kit and place in your landfill bin.
- Dispose of all contents including used swab stick, test cartridge and reagent tube into the biohazard waste bag provided, and dispose of in your landfill bin.
- If no waste bag is provided, place all contents into a small, sealable plastic bag and dispose of in your landfill bin.
Why?
All test kit materials are considered biohazardous waste and may contain pathogens which are easily transmissible to others. Please dispose of all used test kit materials in a biohazard waste bag to ensure the safety of waste service employees.
