Stirrers
Plastic stirrers cannot be recycled in the ACT.
Stirrers (including bioplastic stirrers) are prohibited from sale, supply or distribution in the ACT from 1 July 2021. There are plenty of acceptable alternatives for stirrers including items made from metal, wood and bamboo.

Disposal options
- Avoid using all single-use products where possible
- For commercial users you can contact your supplier for return options if items are in original, unopened packaging. If you have bulk stock in storage, you can pass on to franchises or outlets outside the ACT — this is preferable to sending it to landfill.
- Rubbish bin
Why?
Small items such as plastic stirrers fall through the machinery at the Materials Recovery Facility where the contents of your recycling bin are sorted and end up in landfill.
