Straws (plastic)
Plastic drinking straws are single use products which cannot be recycled and must be placed in the landfill bin.
Disposal options
- Avoid single use plastic and consider switching to alternatives such as paper straws or reusable metal and bamboo straws
- Contact a business that specialised in recycling these items, such as:
- Banish Recycling and Disposal Program (paid)
- For larger items, Terracycle Straws Zero Waste Box (paid)
- Small businesses and cafes should consider offering an alternative such as paper straws or promoting the avoidance message.
- Place in the landfill bin.
Why?
Drinking straws are too small to be sorted for recycling at our Materials Recovery Facility.
