Animals (dead pets and other carcasses)
Deceased animals must not be placed in your household bins. Dispose of deceased animals promptly.
Disposal options
- Small pets (mice, goldfish and guinea pigs) can be buried in the garden or placed in your compost or worm farm.
- It's not recommended to bury a pet larger than a guinea pig on your property for health and safety reasons.
- Contact your local vet for cremation and memorial options for household pets like dogs and cats.
- Domestic pets and small animals (e.g. possum) can be taken to the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre (fees apply) before 4:30 pm each day. When you arrive, let the weighbridge operator know you have a deceased pet. You will be directed to the tipping area where a staff member will meet you and take your pet to the appropriate area.
- Commercial operators must coordinate a special burial with Remondis at the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre (fees apply). To book a special burial appointment, phone 137373 or email canberra@remondis.com.au . A special burial form must be completed, and a minimum of 24 hours notice is required.
If you are taking a deceased animal to Mugga Lane for disposal, please cover with a blanket, towel or tarp.
