Bottles (glass and plastic)
Glass and plastic bottles such as milk, beer and juice bottles go in your recycling bin.
Disposal options
- Place empty bottles in the recycling bin
- Place plastic lids in rubbish bin
- Drop off free at a Recycling Drop Off Centre
- Under the ACT Container Deposit Scheme (ACT CDS), you can return eligible, empty beverage containers to return points and receive a 10-cent refund for each container
- Broken reusable drink bottles go in the rubbish bin
Why?
Glass and plastic bottles can be readily recycled into new products instead of going into landfill. Our Materials Recovery Facility processes paper, cardboard and empty household containers and packaging only. Plastic lids are too small to be processed and are made from a variety of plastic types that have minimal demand in the recycled plastic market.
