Cooking oil
Cooking oil is hazardous if disposed of in large quantities down ACT drains. Do not put in recycling bin.
Disposal options
- Household quantities (20 litres or less) can be dropped off free at:
- For small amounts, pour cooled oil in a container with secure lid. Dispose of in the rubbish bin.
- For commercial quantities find a business that specialises in the collection of oil, such as:
Waste Away Ph: 6260 1288
- AUSCOL Ph: 1800 629 476
- Cookers Ph: 1300 882 299
Why?
Disposing of used oil the wrong way has the potential to damage land, water and plumbing infrastructure, so we need to recover and recycle as much of it as possible. It takes only one litre of oil to contaminate one million litres of water.
