Dental products
Toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and dental floss packaging must not go in your household recycling bin.
Disposal options
- TerraCycle® and Colgate® have partnered to create a free Oral Care Recycling Program for oral care products and packaging. Items collected include toothpaste tubes and caps, manual toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads, toothbrush and toothpaste tube plastic packaging, and floss containers. Find a free public collection hub location near you via the TerraCycle® location map
- Electric toothbrushes contain batteries and must not be placed in your household landfill or recycling bin. If batteries cannot be removed from the device, the whole device must be disposed of for free at the hazardous waste area at the ACT Government Resource Management Centres:
- Non-electronic toothbrushes can be put in the landfill bin.
Why?
These products are small and made of mixed and soft plastics which cannot be recovered at a Materials Recovery Facility in the ACT. Many toothpaste brands have committed to transitioning to recyclable HDPE tubes in the next few years.
