iPhones, android, smartphones and accessories
Smartphones such as iPhones, iPods, iPads, Samsung and other android devices are often reusable or recoverable and must not go in your household landfill or recycling bins.
Disposal options
- Give to a friend, donate to charity or sell online
- Apple take back their own products for free recycling as part of their Apple GiveBack program
- Drop smartphones, iPhones and iPods off free at Mobile Muster collection points around ACT
- Items with embedded batteries must never be placed in your household bins. These items may be dropped off for free in the hazardous waste area of the Resource Management Centres such as:
- tablets and iPads
- mobile phones
- e-readers and Kindles.

Why?
Apple products and smartphone devices contains many valuable materials including glass, aluminium, gold, silver and copper that can be extracted for reuse. If recycled, fewer raw materials need to be extracted and processed to make new products.
