Light bulbs/globes
Do not place light bulbs in your household recycling bin. The way to dispose of light bulbs depends on the type of material they are made from.
Disposal options
- Incandescent globes (phased-out light globes) and halogens (phased-out downlights) can be wrapped in paper and placed in your household landfill bin in small quantities.
- Lids for Kids is a local charity who accept hard to recycle items as part of their membership service (fees apply) including some light bulbs.
- Ikea offers light bulb recycling through an in-store collection point
- For commercial quantities of globes, contact a specialist collection and recovery business such as:
Bulbs, tubes, and globes (limit of 10) (excluding phased-out incandescent globes and halogen) can be dropped off for free at:
Why?
Fluorescent light globes contain mercury and other chemicals which can be recovered rather than going to waste in landfill. Incandescent and halogen bulbs contain no mercury so can be disposed of in rubbish bins.
