Why
Oil is a valuable and finite resource. Each year, more than 500 million litres of motor oil is sold in Australia. Oil doesn't wear out; it just gets dirty. Used oil can be cleaned, re-refined and used again and again.
Used motor oil can undergo various treatments and then be used as an industrial burner fuel, or re-refined back into new lubricating and hydraulic oil.
When incorrectly disposed oil can pollute land, water and damage infrastructure.
It takes only one litre of oil to contaminate one million litres of water and a single automotive oil change produces 4 to 5 litres of used oil.
Leaving used oil sitting in your garage is a potential fire hazard.
