Stationery supplies
Stationery supplies such as pens, pencils, sharpeners and erasers are made from mixed materials and should either be re-used, donated or placed into general waste bins.
Disposal options
- If items are in good condition, consider donating or gifting them where possible. Consider repairing items to extend their life before disposal, including donating items to organisations that repair items or use parts to make new products. Visit our reuse page for options. Officeworks have a stationery recycling box for school supplies such as pens, highlighters and colouring markers.
- For small metal stationery items such as paper clips and staples, consider using a Zero Waste Warrior tub from Lids4Kids (conditions and fees apply).
- For large quantities of stationery, consider purchasing a TerraCycle Pens, pencils and Markers Zero Waste Box (conditions and fees apply).
- Pencil shavings can go into the compost bin or worm farm
- If the item has no suitable reuse or drop‑off options, place it in your household general waste bin.
