Give your items a second life by reusing and repairing them. You can also save money in tip fees. Let’s move away from a throwaway society and make the ACT one that repairs, reuses and recycles. This is supported by the ACT Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan which promotes keeping materials in use for as long as possible, reducing the need to use natural or virgin resources.

Items in good condition can be gifted to a friend, donated to charity, sold or given away online. Donate items in good condition to:

  • Goodies Junction reuse shop is located at the resource management centres in Mitchell and Mugga Lane and will accept many items in good condition to help you avoid tip fees and reduce waste to landfill.
  • Another Chance Op Shop Scullin accepts clothing, linen, books, toys, kitchen ware and bric-a-brac.
  • Communities at Work accepts clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories.
  • Red Cross Shops accepts clothing, shoes, bags, accessories and homewares.
  • Roundabout Canberra accepts baby items and children’s clothes in excellent condition.
  • Salvos accepts clothing, accessories, toys, books, homewares and furniture.
  • SCR Group accepts clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories.
  • Vinnies accepts clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery, homewares, linen, toys, books and furniture.

Repair

If you need help with broken items, head to a repair café. They match your broken item to volunteers with certain skills. Volunteers generally donate their time and skills for free. Some cafes encourage donations or ask you to contribute to the cost of the materials. Contact one of the following organisations for more information:
