Smoke alarms
Home smoke alarms are not recyclable in the ACT and must not go in your household recycling or general waste bins. ACT Fire & Rescue do not accept home smoke alarms.
ACT Fire & Rescue recommends wherever possible, hard-wired and interconnected smoke alarms are installed. Refer to the ACT Emergency Services Agency for more information on Smoke Alarms.
Disposal options
- Please remove batteries from your smoke alarm. All types of smoke alarms can be dropped off at:
- All batteries are classed as hazardous waste and must not go in your household general waste or recycling bins for safety and environmental reasons.
- Refer to batteries (household) for responsible disposal options
Why?
All embedded, damaged or fire affected batteries must be disposed of safely and properly through the free hazardous waste area at the ACT Government Resource Management Centres.
