Clothing and textiles can be donated, reused or repurposed. Do not place them in your household recycling bin.

- Donate to businesses and charities that specialise in the acceptance and resale of second-hand clothing, blankets and fabrics, (ring for opening times and shop locations), such as:
Items that cannot be reused
- Donate old blankets, sheets and towels (no fluffy doonas or bath mats) to Domestic Animal Services. Dog toys, collars and leads are also accepted.
- Drop off clothing and textiles in any condition from any brand to a H&M clothing store recycling collection box.
- Take old sheets, towels, table cloths, quilt and doona covers, pillow cases, tea towels and napkins of any brand to Sheridan Boutique stores (Manuka and Fyshwick).
- Other unusable textiles and fabrics can be donated to ACT Wildlife or Wildcare Queanbeyan for use in animal welfare.
- Some retailers such as Kathmandu, Macpac, Paddy Pallin, Universal Store and Decjuba will accept their own branded items in store through the Upparel recycling program.
- Textile Recyclers Australia – Recycle underwear only (fees apply). Compost natural fibres in your backyard compost.
- Place unusable textiles and fabric in your household landfill bin.
Why?
Millions of tonnes of clothing in Australia are purchased and not worn, going to waste in landfill. Consider avoidance and second-hand clothing. Only buy what you need, buy quality over quantity and repair or reuse where possible.
