Electrical appliances must not go in your household recycling bin.
Disposal options
- Give to a friend, donate to charity or sell online.
- Drop off working appliances free at The Green Shed at:
- Materials made predominantly of metal (80% metal) can be dropped for free at the ACT Government Resource Management Centres as the metal can be recovered:
- Contact a business that specialise in the collection, recycling and/or reusing of metal, such as:

- Some electronics such as Bluetooth headphones, electronic cigarettes, vapes, electric toothbrushes contain embedded batteries that cannot be removed and are not currently accepted by the B-cycle program or other product stewardship schemes. Embedded batteries should be disposed of for free at the hazardous waste table at ACT Government Resource Management Centres at Mugga Lane or Mitchell.
- As a last resort, they can be placed in your landfill bin or dropped off at a Resource Management Centre (fees apply).
Why?
The metal in electrical appliances can be recovered. Keep them out of recycling bins, as they can damage machinery and their cords tangle in the equipment at materials recovery facilities.
