Televisions, computers and accessories

Televisions, computers and accessories must not go in your household bins. Batteries and printer cartridges must be removed before disposal. Repair, reuse, or dropping off to a recycling program is encouraged. Some items can be recycled and dropped off for free at Resource Management Centres in ACT.

Disposal options

Televisions, computers and accessories may be dropped off for free as part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme at:

Television, computer and accessory items – free drop off

  • Computers and laptops
  • Computer monitors and screens
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • Televisions
  • Remote controls
  • Headphones (wired only)
  • Gaming consoles, gaming controllers, handheld gaming devices
  • Speakers, stereo, amplifier (non-wood and hard wired only)
  • Cameras: digital, analogue, camcorder, video recorders, webcams
  • Streaming devices, set top boxes, smart home devices
  • CD/DVD player, CD/DVD burner, CD/DVD drive
  • VHS player, Cassette player
  • Photocopier, scanner, printer, projector, fax machine (remove toner and ink)
  • Hard drives, modems, routers, switches, access points, networking devices, servers
  • Cables, cords, adapters, wall charger, AC adapter, electrical transformers, static converters
  • Motherboard, memory card, network card, sound card, video card
  • Circuit boards (Limit of 20 for A4 size or smaller, and maximum 10 for up to A2 size)

Limit of 15 items per person (a keyboard, mouse and monitor equals one item).

Note: Batteries must be removed from all items. Items with embedded batteries may be dropped off for free at the Hazardous waste area of the Resource Management Centre.

Battery powered items – free drop off

Battery powered computers and accessories with embedded or rechargeable batteries may be dropped off for free in the hazardous waste area of the Resource Management Centre:

  • Mobile phones
  • Tablet, iPad – embedded battery
  • Gaming devices – embedded battery
  • Headphones – battery powered or rechargeable
  • Speakers - battery powered or rechargeable only

Trade-in and take back programs

Some stores offer trade-in or recycling programs on some items. Contact the following store directly for more information.

Donate your computer

Tech Shed may accept some computers and accessories in any condition. Their program provides affordable computers for pensioners, disability clients, education, students, and charities. Contact Tech Shed directly for more information.
