Electrical items
Electrical items and electronic devices must not go in your household recycling bin. Repair, reuse, or dropping off for free to a recycling program is encouraged.
Electrical items and electronic devices are powered by a plug or battery.
E-waste is the term for any electrical item that is no longer working or wanted.
Some e-waste items can be recycled and dropped off for free at Resource Management Centres in ACT.
Reuse options
- Repair, give to a friend or sell online. Even if the item is broken, parts and spares can be useful to others.
- Some electrical items in good condition may be accepted as a donation by Goodies Junction at:

- Televisions, computers and accessories may be dropped off for free as part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme at:

Battery powered items
Battery powered items must never be placed in your household bins. These items can be dropped off for free in the hazardous waste area of the Resource Management Centres such as:
- Cordless items – e.g. cordless vacuum, electric toothbrush, cordless shaver
- Power tools – battery powered or rechargeable
- Personal grooming devices – battery powered or rechargeable
- Tablet, iPad
- Mobile phones
- Gaming devices – embedded battery
- Headphones – battery powered or rechargeable
- Speakers - battery powered or rechargeable only

White goods
White goods and electrical items made of more than 80% metal can be dropped off for free in the metal recycling area of the Resource Management Centres such as:
- Fridges
- Freezers
- Washing machines
- Dryers
- Dishwashers

Metal recyclers

Electrical items not listed above
If your electrical item cannot be repaired, reused or dropped off to a free recycling program, please place in your household landfill bin.
If the item is too large or heavy for your household landfill bin book a bulky waste collection.
