Disposal options

• Donate, sell or gift items where possible. Consider repairing items to extend their life before disposal, including donating items to organisations that repair items or use parts to make new products. Check the City Services - Reuse page for more information.
• If reusable, drop off for free at Goodies Junction (conditions apply). Check the Goodies Junction - Donation page for more information and drop off at:

  • Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre

  • Mitchell Resource Management Centre

• Some items in excellent condition for children aged 0–16 years may be accepted by Roundabout Canberra (conditions apply). Check the Donate Goods page for current acceptance criteria.
• GIVIT is an online donation platform that connects people with charities. Furniture in good condition may be accepted if there is a current request listed on their What’s Needed page.
• Consider booking a free bulky waste collection. Follow the preparation requirements provided when booking (conditions apply).
• Items made of more than 80 percent metal can be dropped off for free in the metal recycling area of the resource management centres
• Contact a business that specialises in the collection, recycling and/or reusing of metal (fees may apply), such as:

  • ACT Recycling

  • Sims Metal Management

  • Access Recycling, Fyshwick

  • Metal Mart, Fyshwick

• If the item has no suitable reuse or recycle options, drop off at a resource management centre (fees may apply). Check quantities and limits before dropping off at:

  • Mitchell Resource Management Centre

• Do not dump or leave items in public places or outside charities. This is illegal dumping and fines apply.
