Clean and unbroken shoes can be reused or sold. Broken or unusable shoes should be placed in your general waste bin.

Broken or unusable items
- Some shoes may be able to be repaired or resoled, giving them a longer life. Search for a shoe repair service in Canberra.
- Drop off rubber or soft shoes, including sports shoes and football boots (not business shoes, heels or work boots) at Tread Lightly collection locations.
- Some retailers such as Kathmandu and Macpac will accept their own branded items in store through the Upparel recycling program.
- Place broken or unusable shoes in your general waste bin.
Why?
Our Materials Recovery Facility is designed to process household packaging only. Shoes are made from mixed materials, which make them difficult to recycle and may damage equipment.
