Video games and consoles
Video game equipment is not accepted in the recycling bin. Consoles are not covered by the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme and end of life electrical appliances are a growing problem worldwide.
Disposal options
- Give to a friend, donate to charity or sell online
- If reusable, drop off free at The Green Shed at:
- Consider taking your unwanted games and/or machine to an electronic game retailer and swapping/trading for something else or selling for cash
- Scratched discs may be repaired through your local gamming retailer
- Broken discs and gaming equipment go in your rubbish bin
Why?
At this stage, Australia does not have a national recycling scheme for electrical appliances as a whole. The existing scheme covers TVs and computers while specific programs exists for mobile phones and printer cartridges. Currently at the end of their life, gaming equipment must be disposed of in landfill.
