Project description

Design is underway on the Belconnen to City Transitway.

The ACT Government completed a feasibility study for the Belconnen to City Transitway in early 2026.

The long‑term plan for the transitway is to evolve from its current vehicle‑oriented function into a multi-modal, high‑capacity public transport corridor that supports the future growth of Canberra and the Belconnen region.

Now, this project is progressing design work for short to medium-term public transport improvements along the Belconnen to City corridor.

The feasibility study considered:

  • short to medium-term public transport improvements including bus priority measures
  • options that deliver both immediate benefits and preserve the long-term vision for this corridor, including future light rail
  • bus priority measures for the transitway which remain aligned to the multi-modal network vision for Haydon Drive
  • existing rapid bus routes
  • existing cycle routes.
