The School Safety Program works closely with schools, parents and the community to deliver infrastructure improvements around schools. Improvements focus on increasing safety and supporting students to walk and ride to school or use public transport.
Active travel improves student health and wellbeing and reduces the prevalence of chronic diseases later in life. It also reduces our transport emissions, helps to minimise congestion and builds confidence and independence for students.
Each year a program of works is delivered around schools to support active travel. Improvements include a combination of upgrades to existing infrastructure and new works, focusing on paths, crossings and treatments to slow vehicle speeds.
Below is the current program of works for infrastructure upgrades.
Gordon Primary School: traffic calming on Knoke Avenue.
St Mary MacKillop College: convert the existing two children's crossings to raised pedestrian crossings on Drumston Street and Ellerston Avenue and provide a new path connection along Ellerston Avenue.
Taylor Primary School: raised pedestrian crossing and rubber speed cushions on Marconi Crescent.
Monash Primary School: new path connection on Alabaster Street.
Torrens Primary School: new community path between Horrocks Street and the children’s crossing on Batchelor Street and improvements at the children’s crossing.
Trinity Christian School: new path connection on the eastern side of Trinity Christian School to the shared path on Erindale Drive.
