Community paths

On this page

The ACT Government manages and maintains approximately 3,800 kilometres of community paths across Canberra. These are a mixture of traditional concrete paths and asphalt off-road shared paths, used for both walking and cycling.

To report an issue with the path network please use the Fix My Street feedback form.

Information to help you plan your travel on the path network is available on the Transport Canberra website.

Path maintenance

Community path maintenance occurs throughout the year. This includes works on paths, pavers, kerbs and gutters on public land.

The ACT Government conducts regular inspections to identify areas that need maintenance. We also have a team of inspectors who review Fix My Street requests. These requests are inspected within 10 business days and then categorised as needing immediate or longer-term repair. Immediate repairs are usually completed within 10 business days. Longer-term repairs are included in future works programs and prioritised based on safety and other factors such as path use.

Infrastructure improvements

The ACT Government has a number of infrastructure programs which aim to improve the path network across Canberra. These projects are guided by the Active Travel Plan 2024-30 (PDF 13.6 MB).

For information on infrastructure projects currently underway in your region see infrastructure projects. You can also view the walking and cycling infrastructure projects map below which shows projects in the feasibility, design and construction phases.
