Project description

The ACT Government is committed to Vision Zero – that means no deaths or serious injuries on our road transport network. As part of this commitment, the ACT Government is committed to delivering road infrastructure safety improvements under the Pedestrian and Road Safety Improvement Program.

Traffic safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists will be delivered in 5 suburbs listed below.

Florey shops traffic, parking and pedestrian safety improvements

The ACT Government is delivering a staged program of traffic, parking and pedestrian safety improvements at the Florey shops, informed by community feedback. For more information visit the Florey shops improvements.

Deakin

Safety improvements at the Adelaide Avenue and Hopetoun Circuit intersection in Deakin were completed in October 2025. Ramps on both sides of the intersection (Yarralumla and Deakin sides) have now been improved for a safer crossing for pedestrian and cyclists. This project was jointly funded under the ACT Government and Australian Government Pedestrian and Road Safety Program.

Kambah

The ACT Government is delivering road and pedestrian safety improvements across Kambah in 2026. This includes new refuge islands, lane width reductions, asphalt speed humps and permanent speed limit reductions. What you need to know

Work is underway. Works will be staged and are expected to be complete by the end of June 2026, weather permitting.

Road and pedestrian detours will be in place to ensure the safety of workers. We ask the community to please slow down and follow the construction signage.

One of the improvements you’ll notice below are a reduction in lane widths. The presence of a marked edge on the road does not restrict parking. However, drivers must ensure they park in accordance with other parking restrictions, such as not stopping on nature strips, blocking access, parking on paths, or within 10 metres either side of an intersection. Drivers must ensure there is at least 3 metres clearance between the right side of the parked vehicle and any unbroken dividing centre line or median strip. You can read more guidance on the ACT parking restrictions and rules.

Permanent speed limit changes

A change in speed limit to 50km/h has been identified to increase safety on a number of streets. There will be temporary signage in place ahead of time to notify of the upcoming speed limit change.

Temporary signage will be in place ahead of time to notify of the upcoming speed limit change.

Once the permanent aluminium signage is installed, the new speed limit will be in effect.

These works are jointly funded under the ACT Government and Australian Government Pedestrian and Road Safety Program.

The improvements are nearby 14 Bauhinia Street and include:

  • a new pedestrian crossing on Bauhinia Street
