General updates
Northbourne Avenue closures: A section of Northbourne Avenue is closed from 8 pm Friday 19 September to 6 am on Monday 22 September 2025 for stormwater works. See Built for CBR for more information.
Raiders: You may notice some public structures lit up green in celebration of the Canberra Raiders making the semi finals. Visit the Transport Canberra events page for information on getting to the game on Saturday.
Rural roads: Road grading is underway on Brindabella Road, Mountain Creek Road and Two Sticks Road this week.
Seniors: Visit the COTA ACT Seniors and Better Ageing Expo on Wednesday 24 September 2025 at the Old Bus Depot Markets. Come and speak to staff from Domestic Animal Services, NoWaste and Transport Canberra. Free travel information is available on the Transport Canberra website.
Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance. They will reopen on Wednesday 1 October 2025. For more information see sportsgrounds closed for maintenance.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Dunlop playground toilet: Design work continues for the new facilities including the associated landscaping and screening. Planning and service approvals are also underway.
Kuringa Drive pavement rehabilitation: The road rehabilitation works on Kuringa Drive have commenced with cleaning of existing drains and outlets to allow the stormwater to run off site.
ACT parks and reserves: Pedestrian detours are in place and signposted along Charcoal Kiln Road for the Glenburn Heritage Trail Walk at Kowen Forest while forestry harvesting operations, truck loading and haulage takes place. The walk remains open but detours are expected to be in place until late-September 2025.
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Hopetoun Circuit safety improvements: Construction of road safety and pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Hopetoun Circuit and Adelaide Avenue are continuing. Changed traffic arrangements, including single lane closures of the on and off-ramps will be in place until works are complete anticipated at the end of October 2025. Traffic controllers and speed reductions will be in place during off-peak hours only during construction.
Pest control: Crews are undertaking Serrated tussock control in Taylor.
Prescribed burns: The 2025 prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Gungahlin Eucalyptus Plantation, Hall and Gubur Dhaura Heritage Park, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking litter picking on Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Horse Park Drive.
Trees: Crews are undertaking pruning and removals in Harrison, Ngunnawal and Nicholls.
Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Upgrade works continue along Old Well Station Road in Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve. During works the road is closed to walkers and cyclists. Completion of these works is anticipated by early 2026.
The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Thursday 16 October 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
Ready-Cut Cottage accommodation is closed until further notice for maintenance and repairs.
Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve is closed for rock climbing until Wednesday 31 December 2025 for the Peregrine Falcon breeding season.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway upgrades: Pavement construction works continue throughout the area. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. Both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane during off-peak hours on weekdays.
Monaro Highway pavement rehabilitation: This project is now complete. Some minor cleaning works will continue to take place along the verge over the coming week.
Tuggeranong skatepark: Surface remediation works is planned to occur on Monday 22 September 2025 at the skatepark. To allow for remediation works to occur, small sections of the skatepark will be intermittently closed throughout the day. Please observe any closure signage. Skate ramp investigation works are planned to occur on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September 2025. During this time, both skate ramps at the Tuggeranong skatepark will be temporarily closed during daylight hours.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Chifley, Fisher, Pearce, Phillip and Waramanga.
Prescribed burns: The 2025 prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Denman Prospect, Stromlo and Mount Taylor Nature Reserve, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Molonglo River bridge: Pre-cast deck panels are being placed using an 800-tonne crane and installation continues towards the mid span of the bridge. Piling work for the south side abutment has also commenced.
Weston Creek skatepark: Surface remediation work is planned to occur on Monday 22 September 2025 at the skatepark (weather permitting). To allow for remediation works to occur, small sections of the skatepark will be intermittently closed throughout the day. Please observe any closure signage.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
