Sportsgrounds and ovals

The ACT Government is investigating options to provide more fields for Canberrans to play sport. Five dryland ovals have been identified as possible options to expand and complement nearby sporting facilities and to be brought ‘online’ in future for formal sport booking. Feedback closes Thursday 22 October 2026. See YourSay.

The ACT Government manages more than 280 hectares of irrigated sports fields. This includes approximately 884 individual sporting fields available for hire. We also have 32 dryland ovals which offer informal recreational opportunities.

Individuals and sporting organisations can hire a sportsground.

Visit the ACT Sport and Recreation website to make a booking and to see whether sportsgrounds are open or closed.
