Playspace Upgrades

Project description

Infrastructure surrounds us in Canberra. From roads and footpaths to streetlights, dog parks and playgrounds – just to name a few. Across the ACT playgrounds are being improved and new play activities are being delivered to provide children of all ages with fun, creative and engaging play experiences.

Play space upgrades

As part of the ACT Government’s Better Suburbs Program, a community-led Play Spaces Forum allocated $1.9 million to improve playgrounds. One key decision was the allocation of $350,000 for new nature play spaces to enhance Eddison Park in Woden and Glebe Park in the City. $150,000 was also set aside to build a nature play space in Farrer. Read all about the new nature play spaces here.

Whole of suburb play reviews

Following the whole of suburb play reviews recently undertaken in Richardson, Waramanga, Torrens, Narrabundah and Higgins, construction will commence in 2020 on delivering the new and improved upgrades. This has been guided by community feedback to provide a better mix of play that caters to more ages, abilities and play styles. The final designs are currently being prepared - stay tuned! For more information on the community engagement that was undertaken visit YourSay.

Refresh works

Amenity upgrades and refresh works will be undertaken at 20 existing priority play spaces, including seating, shade infrastructure and new pieces of equipment. The locations being refreshed include:

New nature play spaces

Natural play spaces will be delivered in 2020 to enhance the existing play facilities at Yerrabi Pond in Gungahlin and the Kambah Adventure Playground. Natural play spaces provide creative and imaginative play experiences, using elements from the landscape, such as logs and rocks, to encourage children to climb, jump and explore.

New shade sails

Shade sails will also be installed at the following playgrounds:
