Project description
Canberrans are travelling safer and more efficiently than before with the traffic lights at the intersections of Tillyard Drive with Ginninderra Drive and Lhotsky Street now operational.
Upgrades at the intersection of Ginninderra Drive and Tillyard Drive included:
- Traffic lights including signalised pedestrian crossing.
- Additional eastbound (citybound) through lane.
- Additional right turn lane from Ginninderra Drive onto Tillyard Drive.
- New pedestrian crossing and give way signage at the slip lane from Tillyard Drive onto Ginninderra Drive.
- Path connections from the existing shared path on the southern side of the intersection.
- Footpath connection from this intersection to the intersection of Tillyard Drive/Lhotsky Street.
Upgrades at the intersection of Tillyard Drive and Lhotsky Street included:
- Traffic lights including signalised pedestrian crossing.
- Zebra crossings on both the northern and southern sides of the intersection.
- Relocation of existing bus stop north of the intersection approximately 20 metres further north.
Both intersections were also the first extra low voltage intersections in Canberra making it safer in the event of an accident for road users and emergency responders. They have an uninterrupted power supply which ensures the traffic lights stay on even during a power outage.
