Hume Circle improvements

Current update

Planning and early design work has been progressed to identify improvements to the intersection of Canberra Avenue, Wentworth Avenue and Sturt Avenue in Kingston (Hume Circle) to improve traffic flow and safety.

The ACT Government has been working with the National Capital Authority (NCA) to ensure the design meets requirements of the National Capital Plan (NCP).

The NCA recently released the National Capital Plan Draft Amendment 102 – Hume Circle Precinct (DA102) for public consultation. Find out more about the draft amendment and the public representations.

The ACT Government will work with the NCA to ensure any future redevelopment proposed by the NCP Draft Amendment responds to the identified need for improving safety and traffic flow while also meeting urban design requirements for the Hume Circle Precinct.

As design work continues for the intersection improvements, it will need to consider the proposed NCP Amendment. Therefore, timing for further design work is subject to the finalisation of the NCP Amendment and the associated land use forecasts.

This project is jointly funded by the ACT and Commonwealth Governments.

Project description

Design is underway on Hume Circle improvements.

Hume Circle roundabout is a key intersection for suburbs Griffith, Narrabundah and Kingston in southern Canberra.

This intersection has been identified as in need of improvements to reduce crashes and congestion so we are investigating ways to improve safety and traffic flow for all road users.
