Project description

Planning is underway on Kingston shops public space improvements.

In the 2026-27 ACT Budget, the ACT Government committed to improving shops across Canberra. This includes public space upgrades at the Kingston shops.

The Kingston shops is one of Canberra’s oldest shopping districts, making its mark as a premier destination for shopping in the 1920s. A section of the shops is heritage listed, preserving an iconic part of Canberra’s history. The shops have evolved over time and now include cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, jewellers, hairdressers, gyms and many boutique speciality stores.

This project will undertake improvements to the public spaces around the shops. Works may include new seating, lighting, crossings and car park improvements, paving or landscaping.

The ACT Government will engage with key stakeholders before finalising designs and ensure the upgrades acknowledge the heritage value of the area.
