Project description

The ACT Government is committed to Vision Zero – that means no deaths or serious injuries on our road transport network. As part of this commitment, the ACT Government is committed to delivering road infrastructure safety improvements under the Pedestrian and Road Safety Improvement Program.

Traffic safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists will be delivered in 4 suburbs listed below.

Deakin

Safety improvements will soon be delivered at the Adelaide Avenue and Hopetoun Circuit intersection in Deakin. Ramps on both sides of the intersection (Yarralumla and Deakin sides) will be made safer. These works are funded under the ACT Government’s Pedestrian and Road Safety Program.

Works will be undertaken in two stages (map below).

Stage one

Work will begin in the week commencing Monday 11 August 2025 on the Adelaide Avenue off-ramp westbound (Deakin side) of the intersection to provide improved crossings facilities. Works will deliver new and upgraded pram ramps, crossings, kerb ramps, path connections, chevrons, line markings and landscaping.

Works on the Deakin side are expected to take about 3 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.

Stage two

Once stage one is complete, stage two will start on the Adelaide Avenue off-ramp eastbound (Yarralumla side) of the intersection. Stage two will deliver new and upgraded pram ramps, crossings, kerb ramps, path connections, chevrons, line markings and landscaping.

Stage two is expected to take 3 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.

All works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2025.

Works will be carried out as dayworks only between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday. If required, work may be undertaken on weekends between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm.

Changed traffic arrangements, including single lane closures of the on and off-ramps will be in place. Traffic controllers and speed reductions will also be in place only during the hours of construction.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h through the work area. Please slow down when approaching the works.

No trees will be removed as part of these works and there will be no impact to bus stops or public transport. You can also view the final design for these improvements (JPG 200 KB).
