Florey shops improvements

Current update

The ACT Government is now progressing Stage 2, with construction commenced in May 2026. Works are expected to be complete by July 2026, weather permitting.

Works will be undertaken in stages, during business hours but outside peak school hours. Works will operate from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Friday and 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays, weather permitting. During construction, there will be temporary impacts to shops users. This may include short-term traffic diversions around work zones and the use of alternative entries and exits to the car park. Access to parking will be maintained at all times.

Project description

Construction is underway on Florey shops improvements.

The ACT Government is delivering a staged program of traffic, parking and pedestrian safety improvements at the Florey shops, informed by community feedback.

Stage 2 is underway

Stage 1 of the Florey shops improvements was completed in 2025.

The ACT Government is now progressing Stage 2.

Stage 2 will focus on improving pedestrian safety and accessibility around the shops, particularly near the medical centre and key crossing points.

Stage 2 improvements will include:

  • An at-grade pedestrian crossing on Kesteven Steet in front of the medical centre (subject to detailed design and safety assessments). During the tender process, the market offerings in response did not provide for a raised crossing to be delivered as previously foreshadowed and the crossing will be delivered at grade.
  • Two new streetlights to improve visibility at the new crossing
  • Extending the existing 40km/h school zone beyond the new pedestrian crossing
  • Two new speed cushions on the approach to the pedestrian refuge island on Connah Street, with age-friendly warning signage
  • New seating at the shops

The medical centre is expected to be the most impacted, however, access for patients will be maintained throughout the construction period. The existing school crossing will remain operational until the new pedestrian crossing in front of the medical centre is completed and open for use.

What’s already been delivered – Stage 1 (completed)

Stage 1 works were delivered in April 2025 and focused on improving parking, traffic circulation and wayfinding.

Stage 1 improvements included:

  • Introducing a mix of new short-term parking options
  • One additional mobility parking space, increasing the total to three
  • A new loading zone in front of the supermarket to improve delivery safety
  • New and refreshed line marking, including directional arrows
  • Replacement of damaged and missing signs
  • New wayfinding signage encouraging use of the rear car park

These changes improved parking availability, safety and traffic clarity at the shops.
