General updates
Dog adoption: There are 30 dogs available for adoption at Domestic Animal Services including bonded pair Arli and Suzi. Arli is a Maltese X and follows Suzi, a Pug X, everywhere. These two affectionate friends are both 5 years old and looking for a home they can go to together.
Lakes and waterways: ACT Health have commenced water quality testing at designated swim beaches.
Yerra Beach, Dulwa Beach and Nengi Bamir Beach at Lake Ginninderra are open for swimming with a warning for pet owners due to the medium alert level for Tychonema. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
Pests: The European wasp trapping program is now underway. There are 59 traps deployed across southern Canberra and another 68 ready to be deployed across northern Canberra this week. The traps are checked fortnightly and aim to catch queen wasps before they establish a nest.
City - Northbourne Avenue southbound from Cooyong Street to Vernon Circle is closed from 8 pm Friday 17 until 6 am Monday 20 October 2025. Detours will be in place.
Repair works are taking place on parts of the Canberra Centenary Trail until Friday 31 October 2025. Locations include Spring Range, Black Mountain and Mount Majura. The trail will remain open but please follow any on-site signage and stay away from operating machines.
Ecologists are undertaking priority threatened species monitoring activities in Kama Nature Reserve.

Crews have turned off the John Knight Memorial Park water feature and pond for seasonal maintenance work. It is due to be completed by Friday 7 November 2025. This will allow significant time for the pond to dry out to be cleaned.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Canberra High School, School Safety Program: Construction of 2 pedestrian crossings and a pedestrian refuge is in progress. Works are expected to be completed by the end of next week.
Kuringa Drive pavement rehabilitation: Pavement rehabilitation works are progressing well and are expected to be complete by the end of October 2025, weather permitting.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Inner North playground: Following damage to the public toilet door, the toilet has been temporarily closed while the door is fixed. There is no accessible toilet on-site until the door is fixed. The pickle ball court will also be temporarily closed from Friday 24 to Wednesday 29 October 2025 for line marking.
Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Construction works are continuing until the end of the year on upgrading Old Well Station Road at Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve.
Ready-Cut Cottage accommodation is closed until further notice for maintenance and repairs.
Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve is closed for rock climbing until Wednesday 31 December 2025 for the Peregrine Falcon breeding season.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Banks, Gordon, Wanniassa and along Isabella Drive.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway upgrades: Lanyon Drive will close between the northbound and southbound lanes of Monaro Highway from 7 pm Friday 17 to 5 am Monday 20 October 2025. The closure is to allow for remaining bridge girders to be lifted into place. View the alternate routes map (JPG 304.2 KB).
Sulwood Drive pavement rehabilitation: Work will begin on Thursday 23 October 2025, to rehabilitate Sulwood Drive between Athllon Drive and the Mannheim Street intersection and from the Mannheim Street intersection to the Tuggeranong Parkway. Works are expected to be completed by the end of March 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
