Request a waste collection service for a newly built multi-unit development

Multi-unit development initial request form

To requests a waste collection service for newly built multi-unit developments (MUDs) you will need to complete the Initial request new multi-unit development form.

This form can only be used by the managing strata, body corporate, owner corporation or developer of a new multi-unit development.

The ACT Government provides waste collection services for general waste (red-lidded bin/hopper) and recycling (yellow-lidded bin/hopper) as standard. Services for garden organics (lime green-lidded bin) are also available. Fees apply for the garden organics services.

The multi-unit development must adhere to the design and development requirements set out in the Development Control Code for Best Practice Waste Management in the ACT 2019 (PDF 4.4 MB). Further information is available on the Waste Management Development Control Code. Failure to adhere to these requirements can result in your service request being delayed or refused.

Operational acceptance of the multi-unit development must also be granted by Place coordination, City Services prior to the supply of waste collection services by the ACT Government.

To complete the form, you will need to know the suburb, section and block as well as the Unit Plan of the new multi-unit development.

The form includes a calculator for estimating the number and type of bins required to service the multi-unit development, based on the total number of units requiring a waste collection service and the number of bedrooms per unit.

After the request is submitted, ACT NoWaste will evaluate the information provided and will perform checks against the supplied Operational acceptance and Development Control Code compliance. These checks will determine the best waste collection service for the multi-unit development – kerbside or on-site wheelie bins, shared hoppers or a hybrid solution. Our contractor will also perform a site inspection of the multi-unit development to ensure the waste enclosure or kerb is accessible to their vehicles and that there are no safety hazards.

When the number of units/bedrooms is confirmed and the type and number of bins/hoppers to be serviced is determined, ACT NoWaste will send the you a quote for delivery of the service (if applicable). You have 30 days to accept or refuse the quote. If the quote is accepted, an invoice for the requested service will be provided and must be paid in full prior to the supply of the bins/hoppers and the commencement of the waste collection service.
