Project description

Complete: Telopea Park improvements.

The ACT Government has improved pedestrian infrastructure within Telopea District Park. The upgrade has formalised an existing desire line and created a direct route across the park from Darling Street in Barton to Gosse Street in Kingston.

A feasibility study and initial concept plans were completed in 2021.

For over 100 years Telopea Park in Barton has been a popular green open space for community recreation. The origins of this park can be traced back to Walter Burley Griffin's 1918 plan for Canberra. The park was established in 1922 and is one of Canberra’s oldest parks which feature a mix of mature exotic and native trees. The park also features barbeque and picnic areas, a public toilet, 2 playgrounds and car parking. The main cycle route also easily connects to surrounding suburbs and the Kingston precinct.

Key features

  • A new 95 metre long and 3 metre wide asphalt walking and cycling path which formalises the existing desire line across Telopea Park from Darling Street in Barton to Gosse Street in Kingston. View the location of the new path (JPEG 1.9 MB).
