Project description

Complete: Lanyon dog park.

Construction is complete on Lanyon dog park and the park is open for use as of Monday 24 November!

The ACT Government has built a new fenced dog park in the Lanyon Valley to provide more spaces for dog owners in south Tuggeranong to exercise and socialise their dogs off-leash. The new dog park is located on the corner of Jim Pike Avenue and Woodcock Drive in Gordon.

Additional time has been allowed for the grass and plants to establish so the park is ready for dogs to be welcomed into the space.

Fenced dog exercise areas contribute to the effective management of dogs in public spaces by providing controlled space where dogs can freely exercise and play. They also assist in alleviating the pressure on shared recreational areas.

We encourage all owners be to be aware of rules and etiquette when visiting any of our fenced dog parks, and remind owners of their responsibilities for responsible dog ownership. Please keep your dog under control, pick up after your pet and respect other park users. Signage can also be found at the entry of the dog park to remind dog owners of their responsibilities.

Location and design

Engagement

In 2022 the community provided feedback on the concept plan which outlined the proposed mix and location of facilities at the new dog park. This included, parking, access gates, paths, trees, water stations and waste bins as well as recreational infrastructure such as shade structures and seating. We heard 81% of respondents supported the draft design provided. There were amendments made to the draft design including different types of plantings to provide a safer experience for dogs. There were also improvements to access. This included accessible parking and an accessible path. The most popular request we heard during consultation was for separate play areas for small and large dogs. The new dog park will have separate small and large areas.
