Project description

Design is underway on Griffith shops improvements

In the 2025-2026 ACT Budget, the ACT Government committed to improving shops across Canberra. This includes public space upgrades at the Griffith shops, with a focus on the area at the front of the shops.

In Canberra’s inner south, Griffith is home to one of the ACT’s oldest shopping precincts. Heritage-listed buildings, boutiques, cafes and recreation areas are dotted around the shops. Some streets in this area were designed according to Walter Burley Griffin’s original plans for Canberra.

Surrounded by residential areas, the shops include a chemist, hairdressers, beauty studio, pilates studio, dance studio, spa, supermarket, a butcher, retail stores, cafés and restaurants.

The public space improvements at Griffith shops will focus on increasing safety, access and amenity which may include footpath improvements, new street furniture, landscaping, lighting and bin shrouds.
