Project description
Woden Library opened in 1977 and is identified as the busiest of the nine public library branches in the ACT.
When the ACT Heritage Library moved location in 2019 space was made available on the top floor of the Woden Library to provide an upgraded community area.
Key features
Four new spaces on the top floor
- The Hive – a hub for digital exploration with a recording studio, recording equipment, podcasting materials and green-screen technology tools.
- The Gathering Space – a place designed for collaboration, which will be available as a meeting space for community groups.
- The Life Lab – a flexible space for learning activities, speakers and dance.
- The Haven – a space for quiet relaxation, study and reading.
New spaces on the ground floor
- Two new community meeting room spaces with after-hours public access and upgraded toilet facilities.
- A community kitchen.
- An external awning over the book return chute adjacent the main entry of the library.
Community consultation
The community was invited to share their ideas for the space to inform the architectural brief for the upgrade from 11 October to 15 November 2019. Feedback and ideas from the community have informed the designs for the upgrade of the Woden Library. The Woden Library has been upgraded to feature a range of spaces for the community to workshop and learn.
