The ACT Government has released the ACT Road Safety Framework 2026–2031, reaffirming its commitment to reducing road trauma and improving safety outcomes for everyone who uses ACT roads.
The new Framework replaces both the ACT Road Safety Strategy 2020–2025 and the ACT Road Safety Action Plan 2024–2025. It provides a clear, coordinated pathway to address road safety challenges and sets a strong foundation for continued action across government.
Based on the globally recognised Safe System approach, the Framework guides road safety policy, programs and investment over the next six years. It recognises that creating a safer road system is a shared responsibility and supports safer behaviour from all road users, whether walking, riding, driving or using public transport.
The Framework takes a whole-of-government approach in pursuit of Vision Zero – no deaths or serious injuries on ACT roads by 2050. It aligns with Australia’s national road safety commitments while responding to the unique needs of the ACT’s local road network.
The Framework outlines the ACT Government’s long-term strategic direction to reduce serious injuries and fatalities, supported by ongoing education, awareness and collaboration across the community. Road safety remains everyone’s responsibility.
